Apple Announces the 128GB iPad with Retina Display

The 128GB iDevice discovered by developers in iOS 6.1 betas has been confirmed! Apple has issued a press statement confirming that the 128GB iPad with Retina display is going on sale next week.

Apple has announced a beefed-up 128GB version of the fourth generation iPad with Retina display which doubles the storage of the previous high-end iPad model which offered only 64GB of NAND Flash memory.

The reason? “… to hold even more valuable content including photos, documents, projects, presentations, books, movies, TV shows, music and apps,” says the Cupertino giant.

Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, adds, “With more than 120 million iPads sold, it’s clear that customers around the world love their iPads, and everyday they are finding more great reasons to work, learn and play on their iPads rather than their old PCs.”

“With twice the storage capacity and an unparalleled selection of over 300,000 native iPad apps, enterprises, educators and artists have even more reasons to use iPad for all their business and personal needs,” says Schiller.

Apple says the tablet remains virtually unchanged from all other standpoints, in that it continues to sport a sleek 9.7-inch Retina display, the company’s custom-designed A6X chip, a FaceTime HD camera, and ultrafast wireless connectivity.

As expected, the new iPad is preinstalled with iOS 6.1 which includes additional support for LTE networks, and iTunes Match.

Apple further notes that the iPad is capable of running over 800,000 apps from the App Store, 300,000 of which are tailored specifically for its 10-inch display.

“iPad also supports the more than 5,000 newspapers and magazines offered in Newsstand, and the more than 1.5 million books available on the iBookstore,” the company adds.

The 128GB iPad comes in both Wi-Fi and cellular models, as well as in Black and White, and is slated to go on sale on February 5, through the Apple Online Store (www.apple.com), Apple retail stores and select Apple Authorized Resellers.

The Wi-Fi-only model sells for $799 (around €600), while the cellular version goes for $929 (close to €700).
