Huawei’s Ascend W1 Windows Phone 8 handset launching at O2 UK next month

O2 has become the first British network to confirm it would sell the Ascend W1Huawei’s only Windows Phone 8 device.

O2 will launch the W1 in an Electric Blue color version first, sometime in March. Towards the end of the month, an Electric Pink version will also be available. Both should be free on contract (with select plans).

The W1 is one of the cheapest WP8 handsets on the market. Its features include a 4 inch WVGA IPS display, 3G, Wi-Fi, GPS, 5MP rear camera, VGA front-facing camera, 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of internal memory, MicroSD card support, and a 1,950 mAh battery.

You can check out the Ascend W1 here at O2.

O2′s current Windows Phone 8 portfolio includes just two devices: the HTC 8X and the HTC 8S. The network will also launch the Lumia 620 pretty soon.

In less than two weeks from now (at MWC 2013), Huawei will announce its second Windows Phone 8 device, the Ascend W2. Unlike the W1, this is a high-end device, featuring a 4.5 inch HD display, 8MP rear camera, dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal memory, and a 2,800 mAh battery. The W2 could be only 7.7mm thin, thus becoming the thinnest WP8 handset ever.
