Kyocera Event launched by Virgin Mobile, yours for $79.99 sans contract

Virgin Mobile has announced a new Android-powered smartphone today, the Kyocera Event. This is a very cheap device, so understandably it doesn’t come with high-end specs or anything like that. It could, however, be an interesting choice for first-time smartphone users.

The Kyocera Event has a 3.5-inch 320×480 IPS touchscreen, a 1 GHz processor, a 3.2 MP rear camera with LED flash, 512 MB of RAM, 4 GB of internal storage, microSD card support, and it runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

The Event comes with Kyocera’s MagniFont, which is an extra-extra-large font size which ensures that even people who can’t see all that well will be able to operate this device. So it’s pretty clear that older folk may be a focus for this handset too, at least in Kyocera and Virgin’s thinking.

The Kyocera Event is now available in black at Virgin Mobile for $79.99 with no contract required. A red version of the smartphone will be sold exclusively by RadioShack starting on March 3. Virgin’s unlimited plans start at $35 per month, and can be paired with the Event without issue.

  1. Even just 15 minutes a day keeps your piano playing ability in tune.
