New 23-Inch IPS Monitor Released by iiyama

Some of the displays released nowadays are packed full of borderline unnecessary features and have such high specs that few will afford to buy them. Then, there are the moderate ones, which everyone will consider getting because of being well-rounded.

The iiyama ProLite XB2380HS-2 is one of the latter types, measuring 23 inches in diagonal and based on in-plane-switching technology (IPS).

Compared to TN panels, IPS screens have wider viewing angles, though the response time is not as good.

Fortunately, iiyama compensated for the drawback and managed to give the newcomer a response time of 5ms, which is the common denominator, in a sense.

That said, the other big asset is the DCR (dynamic contrast ratio) of 5,000,000:1 (gray to gray), which makes images clear during low-light scenes even when watching video in dark rooms.

Furthermore, the viewing angles are of 178 degrees, both horizontally and vertically.

That is a great boon, as it would have been a shame for the Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels), crisp image (W-LED backlighting) not to be properly viewable unless one sat precisely in front of it.

It would have killed the idea of more than one person watching a film on it if that had been the case.

Moving on, the ProLite XB2380HS-2 has three inputs: a DVI-D terminal, an HDMI port and a 15-pin D-Sub mini connector. That way it is compatible with a multitude of computers, media players, set-top boxes, and whatever else can stream videos.

Other specifications include a pair of built-in 2W stereo speakers, a black color paint job, a stand with lift, pivot and swivel function, and RoHS 6 compliance. And all of it is achieved without using mercury in the construction.

The iiyama ProLite XB2380HS-2 is expected to start selling from mid-May onwards, for the price of 25,800 Yen (about $259 / €198 – 259).
