Pantech plans a new 5 inch smartphone with fingerprint recognition sensor for December

Pantech, South Korea’s third largest smartphone maker, is seemingly preparing the release of a new 5 inch high-end Android smartphone. Just like the 5.9 inch Vega Secret Note (available since October), the upcoming handset will have a fingerprint sensor on the back.

According to ET News, the new Pantech device will be released next month. Unfortunately, there aren’t too many details about it, but we can assume that its 5 inch display will be a Full HD one. In any case, it looks like Pantech thinks that fingerprint recognition is a must-have feature for a top-of-the-line smartphone nowadays. LG and Apple seem to agree (having released the G2 and the iPhone 5S, which are both packing fingerprint recognition sensors).

The Vega Secret Note (seen in the teaser image above) has been sold in more tan 200,000 units in South Korea (it’s not available anywhere else in the world anyway). We don’t know if Pantech’s new 5 inch smartphone will also be a Korea-only product, but chances for that to happen are quite high. We’ll keep you posted..
